No matter who you are or where you come from, or what background you have, whether you’re a person of faith or not, I am glad you stopped by. I began FaithRethink because there is a growing movement of people in the Christian tradition(s) who are in a period of transition. We believe that there is more to Christianity.. more to Jesus.. more to following Jesus.. more to the love of God we find in Jesus.. more to loving our neighbor as ourselves.. than we are currently experiencing or was modeled to us.
And while we deeply appreciate many things that our churches, mentors, and the wider Christian culture has given to us, we are raising questions about certain theological frameworks and systemic practices that are no longer relevant, hinder meaningful Christian community, and inspire harmful political and societal values. We believe we must raise our questions and we must advocate for change because what is currently being passed off as “Christian” doesn’t resemble the Jesus we meet in the pages of the New Testament nor our lives today.
So we go where the questions lead, asking them with humility, with open hearts to God and each other, willing to disagree with people, and yet loving them just the same. AND more than anything, we want to go where Jesus is leading.
To follow Jesus is not to remain idle, is not to have a nice neat theology that is safe and comfortable, and maintain lives that are free from conflict. No, rather the God we meet in the face of Jesus enters into the mess and conflict of life. And following Jesus for us means entering into the mess and conflict in other’s lives. Not to fix it quickly, but instead, to be present. To sit in it. To walk through the mess with people as they do the same with us. It means trusting that this God we meet in the face of Jesus is also present with us as we do so.
My prayer is that FaithRethink might be part of the ongoing conversation of what it means to be both authentically human and Christian at the same time.
